MRT Walk Away Assessment of Magnetic Resonance Tomography in combination with borehole NMR

Project Director: Prof. Dr. U. Yaramanci
Scientific Assistant: Thomas Hiller
Sponsorship: Schlumberger Water Services
Period: 01.04. 2007 - 31.12.2008

Project Description:

The main objective of the project is to assess how high resolution NMR borehole data can enhance the interpretation of MRS surface data. Furthermore a study how borehole data can be used to constrain the interpretation of different MRS soundings respective to their distance to the borehole, is carried out.
During a three week field campaign in the desert of the United Arabic Emirates (UAE), a Magnetic Resonance Sounding (MRS) experiment was carried out. Starting close to a boreholes and moving the sounding positions in a walk-away like manner away from the borehole a profile measurement was obtained. The MRS sounding layout was chosen for a maximum penetration depth of 150m according to the available NMR and electrical resistivity log data.
